SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The San Francisco 49ers continued their impressive start to the season Sunday, scoring touchdowns on their first five possessions and pulling away from the Miami Dolphins for a 35-13 victory. San Francisco improved to 2-0 after opening the season with consecutive wins of at least 20 points for the first time in franchise history. The 49ers also showed little sign of fatigue after traveling back from Australia, where they defeated the Los Angeles Rams 27-7 in Week 1. Brock Purdy was nearly flawless throughout the afternoon, completing 20 of 22 passes for 287 yards and two touchdowns. He also scored on a 2-yard rushing touchdown and at one point completed 18 consecutive passes. The 49ers established control early and continued to capitalize on their opportunities after halftime. Purdy connected with George Kittle for a 12-yard touchdown and Kyle Juszczyk for a 6-yard score on San Francisco's first two drives of the third quarter, turning a competitive game into a comfortable lead. Christian McCaffrey also reached a significant career milestone. The San Francisco running back scored twice on 1-yard runs, giving him 100 career touchdowns in 114 games. Only LaDainian Tomlinson, Emmitt Smith and Shaun Alexander reached 100 touchdowns faster during the Super Bowl era. McCaffrey has now scored 50 touchdowns for both the Carolina Panthers and 49ers, joining Marshall Faulk and Randy Moss as the only players to reach that mark with two different franchises.

“It’s kind of crazy to hear that,” McCaffrey said. “I watched all those guys growing up. Marshall Faulk was somebody that I’ve probably seen every single snap he’s played. I don’t take it for granted.”

Miami struggled to keep pace despite moving the ball at times. Malik Willis completed 14 of 23 passes for 197 yards but was sacked four times and could not lead the Dolphins into the end zone until late in the fourth quarter. His 77-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Miller with 2:30 remaining provided Miami's only touchdown of the game. The Dolphins settled for two Riley Patterson field goals in the first half after Patterson missed a 51-yard attempt on Miami's opening possession. San Francisco, meanwhile, finished its opportunities in the red zone, taking a 14-6 advantage into halftime. The difference continued to be San Francisco's ability to turn long drives into touchdowns. “That’s what I was real proud of the guys,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said. “That was the biggest challenge of this, just the human nature of what all went into Week 1 and the travel and everything and coming back after five days off.”

Miami coach Jeff Hafley, who previously worked with the 49ers, credited San Francisco's continuity and experience. “They’ve got great players who are experienced and have been running this system for a very long time,” Hafley said. “Great players, great play-caller, consistency and continuity in one scheme over time usually equals success.” The Dolphins entered the game after spending the week practicing in Napa rather than returning to Miami following their season-opening loss to the Raiders in Las Vegas. The change of location did little to slow San Francisco's offense. Both teams dealt with injuries during the game. Miami running back Jaylen Wright left with a stinger, while wide receiver Caleb Douglas exited with an ankle injury. San Francisco wide receiver Demarcus Robinson and defensive tackle James Thompson Jr. left with injuries that Shanahan believes could be high ankle sprains. Wide receiver Mike Evans also departed with a hip injury.

The 49ers will return home next Sunday to face the Arizona Cardinals.

Miami will host the Kansas City Chiefs.
