LAS VEGAS — The Las Vegas Aces strengthened their position atop the Western Conference Commissioner’s Cup standings Saturday night, holding off the Minnesota Lynx for a thrilling 100-97 victory at Michelob ULTRA Arena.
Led by A'ja Wilson’s double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds, the Aces extended their winning streak to six games and improved to 10-3 on the season. The victory moved Las Vegas into sole possession of first place in the West Commissioner’s Cup race.
The matchup featured a standout performance from Minnesota rookie Olivia Miles, who poured in a career-high 29 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter. Miles helped spark a late Lynx comeback and gave Minnesota a 94-93 lead with 48 seconds remaining after converting a three-point play following a foul by Wilson.
Las Vegas quickly responded. Jewell Loyd was fouled on a three-point attempt and calmly knocked down all three free throws to put the Aces back in front, 96-94. Miles answered with her third three-pointer of the night to reclaim the lead for Minnesota at 97-96 with just under 25 seconds left.
The Aces closed the game at the free-throw line. Wilson converted two crucial free throws before Chelsea Gray added two more in the final 20.5 seconds to secure the victory.
Minnesota had opportunities to force overtime in the closing moments, but Miles missed a potential game-tying three-pointer with seven seconds remaining. Courtney Williams also came up short on a final attempt from beyond the arc as time expired.
The loss snapped Minnesota’s eight-game winning streak, dropping the Lynx to 10-3. Despite the defeat, the Lynx remain among the league’s top teams and continue to be strong contenders for a Commissioner’s Cup berth.
With the Commissioner’s Cup championship game scheduled for June 30, the race remains tight. The top team from the Western Conference will face the East representative for the in-season title.
