Christian Anderson delivered an outstanding performance Sunday afternoon, scoring 29 points to lead No. 15 Texas Tech to an 87–57 victory over Winthrop in Lubbock, Texas. The win extended the Red Raiders’ non-conference home winning streak to 46 games, continuing one of the longest such streaks in the nation. Anderson was nearly unstoppable in the first half, pouring in 25 points before halftime and accounting for Texas Tech’s final 16 points of the period. By the break, the Red Raiders held a commanding 59–21 lead, with Anderson alone outscoring the Eagles. He knocked down all four of his three-point shots in the opening half. Jaylen Petty contributed 20 points for Texas Tech, while preseason AP All-America forward JT Toppin added 14 points and 11 rebounds, recording his seventh double-double of the season. Donovan Atwell also made a strong impact, finishing with 14 points and four three-pointers. Texas Tech improved to 10–3 on the season with the win.
Winthrop, now 8–7, was led by Kareem Rozier and Logan Duncomb, who scored 11 points apiece. Despite the lopsided final score, the Eagles entered the game having lost their previous six contests by a combined 26 points, including a one-point defeat at No. 18 Arkansas earlier this season.
Texas Tech took control early and never trailed, jumping out to a 7–0 lead sparked by JT Toppin and Anderson. The Red Raiders later went on a decisive 24–0 run over an eight-minute stretch as Winthrop missed 14 consecutive shots. The victory came just over a week after Anderson’s 23-point second half helped Texas Tech rally past then–No. 3 Duke at Madison Square Garden. Under third-year head coach Grant McCasland, the Red Raiders are now 23–0 in non-conference home games. Their last loss in such a game came in overtime against Kentucky on Jan. 25, 2020.
Texas Tech will open Big 12 play at home against Oklahoma State on Saturday, while Winthrop begins Big South Conference action at Longwood on Wednesday.
