In the opening match of the 2026 NWSL season, Bay FC secured a 2–1 victory over Denver Summit FC at PayPal Park in San Jose, California, on March 14, 2026. The match marked a strong start for Bay FC, highlighted by early offensive momentum and a decisive defensive performance in the second half. Bay FC took control early in the game when forward Alex Pfeiffer scored just eight minutes into the match. Capitalizing on a deflected pass, she advanced down the right side and placed the ball into the left corner of the net. The goal was especially meaningful for Pfeiffer, as it marked her first score with Bay FC and only her second in NWSL competition.Denver Summit FC responded in the 20th minute with a historic equalizer, the club’s first-ever goal. Forward Janine Sonis delivered a precise cross to Melissa Kössler, who converted with a header at the near post. However, Denver’s momentum was short-lived. In the 25th minute, Sonis was ejected following a video review for a foul on Pfeiffer, leaving Denver with ten players for the remainder of the match. Bay FC regained the lead in the 30th minute. Pfeiffer contributed again, assisting defender Joelle Anderson, who scored from the top of the penalty area. The assist gave Pfeiffer two scoring contributions in the match, a notable achievement in the club’s recent history. In the second half, Bay FC maintained control, holding more than 70 percent of possession and preventing Denver from generating significant offensive opportunities. Despite a late attempt by Racheal Kundananji to extend the lead, Denver’s defense managed to stop the breakaway effort. Bay FC continued to dominate possession in the closing minutes, preserving their advantage until the final whistle.

The match also featured debut appearances from Bay FC players Keira Barry and Anouk Denton. Barry quickly made an impact by helping create space for a long-range shot attempt shortly after entering the game. With this win, Bay FC earned its first victory of the season and secured the first NWSL coaching win for Emma Coates. The result also marked the club’s first victory since June 2025. Overall, Bay FC demonstrated a balanced performance, combining early attacking efficiency with disciplined defense to begin their 2026 campaign successfully.
