Brandon Miller Leads Hornets Past Spurs as Charlotte Extends Winning Streak to Six

CHARLOTTE NC -- Charlotte continued its strongest run in nearly a decade Saturday night as Brandon Miller scored 26 points and the Hornets held off the San Antonio Spurs 111 to 106, extending their winning streak to six games in the latest NBA breaking update.

The victory marks Charlottes longest streak since March 2016 and reflects a growing level of cohesion as the season moves into its middle stretch. Miller set the tone early and again late, while Collin Sexton provided a significant lift off the bench by hitting all five of his three point attempts and finishing with 21 points.

LaMelo Ball added 16 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists, narrowly missing a triple double while helping Charlotte manage pace during a tense fourth quarter. The Hornets built a 17 point lead in the third period, only to see San Antonio surge back behind timely perimeter shooting and transition pressure.

Dylan Harper led the Spurs with 20 points, while Victor Wembanyama finished with 16 points and eight rebounds on 6 of 15 shooting. Charlotte limited Wembanyama’s impact early, holding him to four points, one rebound, and one assist in the first half, a defensive effort that shaped the game’s overall flow.

San Antonio cut the deficit to two points with under five minutes remaining after Harrison Barnes hit consecutive three pointers and a Sexton turnover led to a De’Aaron Fox layup. The Spurs never reclaimed the lead, but the final minute featured a critical sequence that underscored Charlottes late game execution.

With 36 seconds left and the Hornets up three, officials initially called Fox for a foul on a Miller three point attempt. After video review, the call was overturned and resulted in a jump ball, which Wembanyama controlled. Moments later, Wembanyama attempted a rushed three that missed, and Charlotte secured the rebound. San Antonio allowed significant time to run before fouling Miller, who converted both free throws with 10.6 seconds remaining to seal the outcome.

Kon Knueppel, coming off a career high 34 point performance in a win at Dallas two nights earlier, was held to 13 points and six rebounds as San Antonio adjusted its perimeter coverage.

Charlotte seized control in the second quarter, outscoring the Spurs 35 to 17 behind 16 points from Miller, including three three pointers, to take a 61 to 47 lead into halftime. The Hornets defensive efficiency during that stretch proved decisive as San Antonio struggled to generate clean looks.

The game was moved up three hours due to severe winter weather that dropped approximately six inches of snow in the Charlotte area earlier in the day.

What this means moving forward is a favorable outlook for Charlotte as its young core continues to translate development into consistent results, while San Antonio faces ongoing challenges balancing growth with late game execution.

Next steps see the Spurs hosting Orlando on Sunday night, while the Hornets remain home to face New Orleans on Monday night with an opportunity to extend their momentum.
