Denver, CO – Brock Nelson had a career night, scoring two goals and adding two assists to reach 600 career points, as the Colorado Avalanche overwhelmed the Montreal Canadiens 7-2 on Saturday. Gabriel Landeskog also found the back of the net twice in the victory.

Nathan MacKinnon contributed a goal and two assists, extending his NHL points lead to 44. He is also tied with Boston’s Morgan Geekie for the league lead in goals, both having 20.

After a 10-game winning streak was snapped with a shootout loss to Minnesota on Friday, Colorado continues its dominance with a 16-game point streak, posting a record of 13-0-3. The Avalanche have won eight straight at home and have only one regulation loss in 25 games, with a record of 18-1-6. Montreal’s goals came from Ivan Demidov and Lane Hutson, ending a three-game winning streak for the Canadiens. Nelson’s milestone point came early, scoring on a wrister against Jakub Dobes 7:32 into the game. He assisted on Landeskog’s first goal and Brent Burns’ tally just 50 seconds into the second period before scoring again himself at 3:55. Canadiens goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood made 21 saves but saw his attempt at a third consecutive shutout end when Demidov scored at 8:27 of the second period. This goal ended Blackwood’s shutout streak at 174 minutes, 31 seconds. Dobes stopped 29 shots for Colorado.

Initially, Nelson was credited with Colorado’s second goal, but it was later awarded to Landeskog after a review. The Canadiens challenged for goaltender interference, but officials ruled that Josh Anderson’s actions caused the interference. In a nod to history, the Avalanche wore blue Quebec jerseys to honor the former Nordiques and their rivalry with Montreal, celebrating 30 seasons since the franchise moved from Quebec to Denver.
