Broncos Bring in Former Oklahoma Edge Isaiah Thomas for Rookie Minicamp Tryout.

The Denver Broncos are continuing to search for ways to strengthen an already dangerous pass rush, and one intriguing name is getting an opportunity this weekend at rookie minicamp. Former Cleveland Browns draft pick Isaiah Thomas is expected to participate in Broncos minicamp on a tryout basis, giving Denver a chance to evaluate a player with familiar ties to the organization — and one who once formed a dominant college pass-rushing duo with Broncos standout Nik Bonitto. Thomas and Bonitto were major forces together at Oklahoma from 2020-21, combining for 31.5 sacks and 50 tackles for loss during their final two seasons with the Sooners. Their chemistry and production helped anchor one of the most disruptive defenses in the Big 12. Now, there’s a possibility the two could reunite in Denver. The connection goes beyond just Bonitto. Broncos defensive line coach Jamar Cain also coached both players at Oklahoma and has played a major role in developing Denver’s front seven since joining Sean Payton’s staff in 2023. Cain’s familiarity with Thomas likely played a role in the Broncos bringing him in for a closer look. Physically, Thomas fits the mold Denver covets off the edge. At 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds, he pairs NFL size with impressive athletic traits. Before entering the draft in 2022, he posted a Relative Athletic Score above 9.0 and led Oklahoma in sacks during his final collegiate season.

While Bonitto has blossomed into one of the Broncos’ top defensive playmakers, Thomas has struggled to find consistency at the NFL level. The former seventh-round pick has appeared in 12 career games and spent time with the Browns, Lions, and Bengals organizations over the last few seasons.Still, the Broncos have shown they value depth and competition along the defensive front. After investing heavily in the defensive line this offseason, Denver appears committed to building waves of pass rushers capable of impacting games.

For Thomas, the minicamp tryout presents a familiar opportunity — working again with Bonitto and Cain in a system that could maximize his strengths. If he performs well this weekend, he may have a legitimate chance to earn a spot on Denver’s 90-man offseason roster and continue competing through training camp.
