The Miami Marlins defeated the Colorado Rockies 4–3 on Saturday in Miami, thanks to a clutch eighth-inning RBI single by Owen Caissie. Caissie recorded three hits in the game, including the decisive line drive that drove in the winning run. In the eighth inning, Otto Lopez led off with a single against reliever Jaden Hill. López advanced to second on a stolen base and scored when Caissie delivered a hit to center field. Reliever Calvin Faucher earned the win with a scoreless eighth inning, while Pete Fairbanks secured his second save of the season with a perfect ninth. Offensively, Liam Hicks played a key role, hitting a home run and driving in three runs. His two-run homer in the fifth inning tied the game at 3–3 and ended the outing of Rockies starter Michael Lorenzen. Lorenzen, pitching for his sixth team in 12 seasons, allowed seven hits and struck out four over 4⅓ innings. Marlins starter Eury Pérez delivered a strong performance, striking out eight batters over seven innings while allowing three runs. For Colorado, Ezequiel Tovar hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning to give the Rockies a 3–1 lead, and TJ Rumfield added a solo home run earlier in the second inning. Miami tied the game in the third inning when Hicks hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Xavier Edwards, who had reached base earlier in the inning.
The game drew an attendance of 10,160 at loanDepot park, a noticeable decline from the 32,459 fans who attended the season opener. Looking ahead, the Rockies are scheduled to start José Quintana in the series finale, while the Marlins will counter with Max Meyer, marking the season debut for both pitchers.
