During that appearance, Swinney detailed what he described as improper contact by Ole Miss while Ferrelli was still enrolled and participating in team activities at Clemson. Swinney alleged that Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding contacted Ferrelli while the linebacker was attending classes and had already completed multiple steps signaling his commitment to Clemson, including signing financial aid paperwork, securing housing, and purchasing a vehicle. According to Swinney, the communication included a text message sent during a morning class discussing a potential buyout, followed later by an image of a contract.
