Clemson football has intensified its public dispute with Ole Miss following allegations of tampering involving linebacker Luke Ferrelli. Rather than issuing another statement, the Tigers made a quiet but pointed change to Ferrelli’s online player biography after his departure from the program. Ferrelli, who re-entered the transfer portal earlier this month and committed to Ole Miss, no longer has a standard profile on Clemson’s athletics website. Instead, his page now features a single link directing visitors to a timeline of his tenure at Clemson—one that leads directly to head coach Dabo Swinney’s recent 30-minute press conference. During that appearance, Swinney detailed what he described as improper contact by Ole Miss while Ferrelli was still enrolled and participating in team activities at Clemson. Swinney alleged that Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding contacted Ferrelli while the linebacker was attending classes and had already completed multiple steps signaling his commitment to Clemson, including signing financial aid paperwork, securing housing, and purchasing a vehicle. According to Swinney, the communication included a text message sent during a morning class discussing a potential buyout, followed later by an image of a contract. Swinney claimed the Rebels ultimately offered Ferrelli a two-year deal worth $2 million.
Although Swinney emphasized that he held no ill will toward Ferrelli and placed responsibility on “the adults involved,” he used strong language to characterize the situation. He compared the alleged actions to “having an affair on your honeymoon” and labeled the incident an advanced example of tampering, arguing that contact occurred after the player had already signed and enrolled elsewhere. As of now, Ole Miss has not publicly responded to the allegations, and no formal NCAA ruling has been announced. Clemson’s decision to redirect Ferrelli’s biography to Swinney’s remarks appears to signal that the university considers the coach’s timeline to be the definitive account of the player’s brief tenure with the Tigers.
