D’Andre Swift, Bears Agree to $33.75 Million Extension Through 2029.
The Chicago Bears have made a significant commitment to their rushing attack, agreeing with running back D’Andre Swift on a three-year, $33.75 million contract extension, according to sources. The deal includes $27.5 million in guaranteed money and keeps Swift under contract with Chicago through the 2029 season. The agreement comes just two days before the Bears open their 2026 season on the road against the Carolina Panthers, giving Chicago some long-term stability in the backfield. Swift, 27, entered the final year of his previous contract after signing a three-year, $24 million deal with Chicago in 2024. That agreement came shortly before the Bears selected quarterback Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick. Now, following a breakout 2025 campaign, Swift has earned another long-term commitment from the organization. Swift produced the most productive rushing season of his NFL career in 2025, finishing with 1,087 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. He added another 34 receptions for 299 yards and a touchdown through the air. His 2025 performance surpassed the career highs he established during his 2023 season with the Philadelphia Eagles, when he earned his lone Pro Bowl selection. Swift has also become an important part of Chicago's offensive consistency. He has started 34 of the Bears' 35 games over the past two seasons, including postseason play. His combination of explosiveness and versatility helped Chicago finish third in the NFL in rushing last season, averaging 144.5 yards per game.
Chicago's confidence in Swift grew throughout the offseason and training camp. General manager Ryan Poles praised the running back's preparation and development earlier this month. Poles pointed to Swift's continued comfort in the offensive system, as well as the work he has done with the Bears' coaching staff, as reasons for his strong offseason. Swift also believes the work he put in during camp positioned him for another strong season. "I feel like I had a complete camp," Swift said last week, emphasizing his consistency throughout the summer. That consistency was also noticeable to head coach Ben Johnson, who believes Swift is entering the season in an even better position than he was a year ago. Swift won't be carrying the entire workload himself. He and rookie running back Kyle Monangai helped anchor a Chicago rushing attack that ranked among the league's best last season. The Bears also produced 127 explosive plays during the regular season, second-most in the NFL. The organization now has both pieces under contract as it prepares for the start of a season with significant expectations surrounding the offense. Swift's new contract also places him among a group of running backs who received major extensions during the 2026 offseason. Jahmyr Gibbs, Bijan Robinson and Jonathan Taylor were among the players who secured record-setting deals at the position.
