Oregon relied on a dominant defensive performance to defeat Texas Tech 23–0 in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the Orange Bowl on Thursday in Miami Gardens, Florida, earning a spot in the CFP semifinals. The Ducks’ defense forced four turnovers and repeatedly stopped the Red Raiders on fourth down, completely shutting down one of the nation’s most productive offenses. Matayo Uiagalelei caused a key fumble that led to an Oregon touchdown, while freshman Brandon Finney Jr. recorded two interceptions and recovered a fumble. Quarterback Dante Moore threw for 234 yards, and running back Jordon Davison scored two rushing touchdowns. Kicker Atticus Sappington added three field goals as Oregon improved to 13–1 on the season. Head coach Dan Lanning praised his team’s physicality and preparation, saying the defense rose to the challenge.
Texas Tech entered the game averaging more than 42 points per contest but struggled throughout the night. Quarterback Behren Morton finished with 137 passing yards and was responsible for multiple turnovers. The Red Raiders failed to score despite several opportunities in Oregon territory.
The victory sends Oregon to the Peach Bowl on Jan. 9, where the Ducks will face either Indiana or Alabama for a chance to advance to the national championship game in Miami on Jan. 19. The shutout marked Oregon’s first against a ranked opponent since 2012 and highlighted the growing impact of teams that play in the CFP first round rather than receiving a bye. Texas Tech ended its season at 12–2 and will open the 2026 campaign at home against Abilene Christian on Sept. 5.
