Former NFL offensive lineman Jordan Devey has died at the age of 38, with his family confirming that his death was a suicide. Devey, who won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots during the 2014 season, passed away Tuesday. His family shared the news through a fundraising page, describing the loss as an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time for those closest to him. “Tragically, Jordan took his own life, leaving his family to navigate an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time,” the statement read.

The former guard played seven seasons in the NFL, appearing in 44 career games with 21 starts across five teams. During the Patriots’ championship run in the 2014 season, Devey appeared in seven regular-season games. Following his time in New England, Devey joined the San Francisco 49ers, where he played in 15 games and made nine starts during the 2015 season. Devey also spent time with the Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, and Buffalo Bills. He retired from football in 2021 after appearing in one game with Buffalo during the 2020 season. Devey’s wife, Linsey, shared that he died just days before the couple’s 15th wedding anniversary. The couple leaves behind four children. Devey’s mother, Leslie, told Fox 13 in Salt Lake City that the family believes he may have suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a neurodegenerative disease associated with repeated head trauma. She said the family will not be able to confirm whether he had the condition because of the circumstances surrounding his death. The football community continues to mourn Devey, remembering him as a dedicated teammate, Super Bowl champion, and member of several NFL organizations throughout his career.
