FRESNO, Calif. — Fresno State turned a tight opening quarter into a runaway victory Saturday night, overwhelming Sacramento State 49-3 behind a highly efficient passing performance from Jayden Mandal and a three-touchdown rushing effort from Bryson Donelson. The Bulldogs broke through in the second quarter and never looked back, scoring 32 unanswered points before halftime to take complete control of the game. Mandal finished the night 23-of-26 passing for 316 yards and two touchdowns, repeatedly finding big plays as Fresno State's offense moved the ball with ease. After a scoreless first quarter, Mandal connected with Rayshon Luke for an 18-yard touchdown to put Fresno State on the board. The Bulldogs added a two-point conversion to take a 8-0 lead. Fresno State struck again just three minutes later when Mandal found Ezekiel Avit for a 73-yard touchdown, pushing the advantage to 15-0 following another successful two-point conversion. The Bulldogs continued pouring it on before halftime. Mandal scored on a 1-yard quarterback keeper, while Donelson added an 11-yard touchdown run. Manaki Watanabe then closed out the half with a 51-yard field goal, giving Fresno State a commanding 32-0 lead at the break. Donelson continued to punish the Hornets after halftime, breaking loose for touchdown runs of 5 and 56 yards during the third quarter. His performance helped Fresno State establish a dominant rushing attack and put the game well out of reach. Donelson finished with 102 yards on 13 carries and three touchdowns. Fresno State also received a pair of strong performances through the air. Avit recorded 103 receiving yards on just two catches, while Josiah Freeman added six receptions for 100 yards.

The Bulldogs finished with 542 total yards compared with 262 for Sacramento State, controlling the game on both sides of the ball. Sacramento State struggled to generate offense throughout the night. Jackson Sharman completed passes for 150 yards, but the Hornets were unable to keep pace with Fresno State's explosive attack. Fresno State improved to 1-1 with the victory, while Sacramento State dropped to 1-2.
