Grambling State Escapes Kentucky State in Thrilling Overtime Victory, 37‑31

GRAMBLING, La. — In a back-and-forth battle that had fans on the edge of their seats, Grambling State held off Kentucky State 37‑31 in overtime Saturday at Eddie G. Robinson Memorial Stadium. The win improves Grambling State to 2‑1 on the season, while Kentucky State falls to 1‑2. Kentucky State came out firing, jumping to an early 14‑0 lead in the first quarter behind strong play from quarterback Denim Johnson. The Thorobreds’ balanced attack—mixing precise passing with a solid ground game—kept Grambling off balance early. Jaylen Middleton and Jon McCall contributed key plays that helped Kentucky State dominate the opening quarter. But Grambling State, led by dual-threat quarterback C’zavian Teasett and running back Keith Jones Jr., fought back in the second quarter. The Tigers chipped away at the deficit and tied the game late in regulation when Teasett capped a clutch drive with a rushing touchdown with just 10 seconds remaining. The drama continued into overtime, where Grambling sealed the victory on a spectacular play. Tyrell Raby scooped up a fumble and returned it 83 yards for the game-winning touchdown, sending the home crowd into a frenzy. Statistically, Grambling outgained Kentucky State 458 yards to 357, with Teasett throwing for 228 yards and adding key rushing yards on the ground. Kentucky State’s Denim Johnson threw for 146 yards, while their ground game totaled 135 yards.
