JaMarcus Russell, the ex-top NFL draft pick, was dismissed from his role as a volunteer assistant coach at Williamson High School in Mobile, Alabama. Additionally, he is currently entangled in a legal battle over allegations of misappropriating a $74,000 check intended as a donation to the school.

Chris Knowles, a local business owner, issued a $74,000 check after being approached by Russell to donate towards the purchase of weight room equipment for the Williamson football team. However, the school claims they never received the check as Russell allegedly deposited it in a credit union and promptly withdrew $55,000.

In addition to being terminated as a coach, Russell is now prohibited from being present on the school's premises, as per Mobile County Public School officials. Despite attending an event for the football team recently, he was informed that he is not welcome.

The school district stated in a message to WKRG, "Earlier this week, Mr. Russell was reminded that he is not allowed to have any involvement with the football program or be on school grounds."

Russell, aged 38, excelled as a star quarterback at Williamson prior to attending LSU for college. During his time at LSU, he showcased his talent by throwing for 6,625 yards and 52 touchdowns in a span of three years before transitioning to the professional level. As the first overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft, Russell played 25 games for the Raiders across three seasons. Despite his potential, he concluded his NFL journey with a 52.1% completion rate, 18 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions, solidifying his status as one of the most notable NFL draft disappointments. Throughout his NFL career, he amassed a total of over $36.4 million in earnings from salary and bonuses.
