NFL running back J.K. Dobbins made headlines this week after signing a one-year deal with the Denver Broncos, calling it a "no-brainer" move that he hopes will lead to a Super Bowl run. After rushing for a career-best 905 yards with the Los Angeles Chargers last season, Dobbins is now joining a team he believes is on the rise. Dobbins shared his excitement after his first minicamp practice on Wednesday, listing several reasons for his decision. “The defense is really good, like super good, the quarterback is amazing, I like the [running backs] room, as well, the O-line is amazing, as well,” Dobbins said. His confidence in the Broncos’ roster and coaching staff, particularly head coach Sean Payton, made Denver a clear choice for the 26-year-old back. While Dobbins is optimistic about his new chapter, he acknowledged the sting of his departure from the Chargers. The team placed an unrestricted free agent tender on him, which limited his ability to explore offers freely. “That was a little weird,” Dobbins said. “But that was something for my agent to handle... I’m a Bronco now, they’ve got to see me twice a year”.

The Broncos signed Dobbins to a one-year contract worth $2.75 million, with incentives that could push the deal over $5 million. This "prove-it" deal gives Dobbins the chance to showcase his value in a backfield that lost Javonte Williams to the Dallas Cowboys in free agency. Denver's running backs room includes Jaleel McLaughlin, Audric Estime, Tyler Badie, and rookie RJ Harvey, but Dobbins is expected to compete heavily for a third-down and possibly lead-back role. Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph praised Dobbins, calling him “one of the best backs we saw” last season and noting his intelligence and toughness (Legwold). With Payton’s offensive mind and a strong supporting cast, Dobbins could thrive in Denver's system.

The Broncos hope his talent and motivation—especially against his former team—will help push them closer to playoff contention. Dobbins is focused on more than revenge games, though. “I don’t want to just beat the Chargers, I want to get a ring,” he said. “That’s my goal, just to bring a Super Bowl to this city”. If his health holds and the Broncos continue their upward trend, this may indeed be the breakout season Dobbins—and Denver—have been waiting for.
