Jamal Murray Is Walking Tall as the Nuggets’ Last Starter Still Standing.

Jamal Murray has emerged as the Denver Nuggets’ key player as the team faces a series of injuries to its starters. By New Year’s Day, Murray was the only starter still active after teammate Nikola Jokić suffered a left knee injury expected to keep him out for at least a month. Other injured players include Christian Braun, Aaron Gordon, Cam Johnson, and backup center Jonas Valanciunas, placing significant responsibility on Murray as the Nuggets aim to remain competitive in the Western Conference. During training camp, Murray appeared relaxed and rejuvenated, having used the offseason to recover mentally and physically from a challenging previous year. Unlike the prior summer, when his contract situation and physical setbacks complicated his participation with Team Canada at the Olympics, Murray spent the offseason traveling, resting, and spending time with family, particularly his young daughter. He also maintained his interest in mixed martial arts by continuing UFC-style training.

Reflecting on the contrast between past and present offseasons, Murray emphasized the importance of taking a true break from basketball, allowing him to recharge before returning to the court for the new NBA season.
