Nathan MacKinnon led the charge with two goals and two assists as the Colorado Avalanche dominated the Edmonton Oilers 9-1 on Saturday night, continuing their scorching start to the season. Cale Makar, Parker Kelly and Jack Drury each added two goals, while Gavin Brindley also found the back of the net. Defenseman Devon Toews dished out three assists, and goaltender Scott Wedgewood stopped 23 of 24 shots as the Avalanche improved to 9-1-5 and extended their point streak to six games. Colorado wasted no time asserting control, scoring four times in the opening period to chase Edmonton starter Stuart Skinner, who allowed four goals on 13 shots before being replaced by Calvin Pickard. Pickard fared little better, surrendering five goals on 22 attempts as the Avalanche poured it on throughout the night. MacKinnon’s assist on Colorado’s first goal marked his 700th career even-strength point, joining franchise legend Joe Sakic as the only players in Avalanche history to reach that milestone. The four-point effort also extended his personal point streak to eight games.

Connor McDavid scored the lone goal for the Oilers, who have now dropped three straight to fall to 6-6-4. Colorado’s relentless attack and precision passing left Edmonton struggling to keep pace from the opening faceoff. The Avalanche’s balanced scoring display underscored their depth, with contributions coming from all four lines. The Western Conference-leading Avalanche continue their Canadian road trip Sunday night in Vancouver, while the Oilers will look to regroup when they host Columbus on Monday.
