RALEIGH, N.C. — In a breaking update from the Atlantic Coast Conference, Malik Reneau scored 26 points and Miami finished the game on an eight-point run to edge N.C. State 77-76 on Saturday night, extending the Hurricanes’ recent winning momentum.
Miami trailed 76-69 with 1:07 remaining after N.C. State scored seven consecutive points, but Reneau responded with a three point play and Tru Washington added a layup to pull the Hurricanes within 76-74 with 32 seconds left. On the final possession, Washington sank all three free throws after being fouled on a three-point attempt, sealing the victory as Matt Able’s final shot missed for the Wolfpack.
Reneau shot 12 of 19 from the floor and grabbed six rebounds, while Shelton Henderson contributed 17 points and nine boards. Tru Washington added 13 points and Tre Donaldson chipped in 14, helping Miami improve to 20-5 overall and 9-3 in ACC play. The Hurricanes have won three straight and five of their last six games, signaling a strong finish to the regular season.
For N.C. State, Matt Able and Ven-Allen Lubin each scored 17 points, while Quadir Copeland and Darrion Williams added 11 points apiece. The Wolfpack fell to 18-8 overall and 9-4 in conference play, marking back-to-back losses after ending a six-game win streak with a 118-77 loss to No. 24 Louisville. N.C. State led 43-37 at halftime behind Able’s 15 first-half points, but could not hold off Miami’s late surge.
From a season-impact perspective, this loss shifts the ACC standings and creates urgency for the Wolfpack as they prepare to host No. 11 North Carolina on Tuesday. Miami, meanwhile, aims to carry its momentum into Tuesday’s home matchup against Virginia Tech, where sustained offensive execution and defensive focus will be critical.
Looking ahead, the Hurricanes’ ability to execute in clutch situations highlights their growing postseason resume, while N.C. State must adjust its rotation and late game execution to remain competitive in the ACC race. The timeline for both teams emphasizes the importance of the next two games in shaping NCAA Tournament positioning and conference seeding.
