The Miami Marlins opened their season with a narrow 2–1 victory over the Colorado Rockies on March 27, 2026, in Miami. Strong pitching from Sandy Alcantara and an impressive offensive performance by Javier Sanoja played key roles in the win. Alcantara delivered a solid outing, pitching seven innings while allowing just one run on four hits. He struck out five batters and walked two, earning his first win of the season. This marked his sixth Opening Day start, the most in franchise history, and signaled a strong rebound after an inconsistent 2025 season. Sanoja led the Marlins offensively, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. He contributed a run-scoring single in the second inning, helping Miami build an early lead. That inning also featured a run-scoring double by Owen Caissie in his first at-bat with the team, driving in Xavier Edwards. The Rockies scored their only run in the fourth inning. After Jake McCarthy reached base and advanced, Jordan Beck brought him home with an RBI single. Colorado had a chance to add more, but a strong throw from right fielder Austin Slater cut down a runner at home plate earlier in the inning.
Miami’s bullpen preserved the lead, with Pete Fairbanks securing the save in his Marlins debut. Despite allowing a late single, he retired the final two batters to end the game.
Rockies starter Kyle Freeland allowed two runs over 4 1/3 innings and took the loss. With the victory, the Marlins improved their Opening Day record, while the Rockies fell back to an even mark. The two teams, both established in 1993, have now met three times on Opening Day. They will continue the series with another matchup the following day.
