The preseason for the Miami Dolphins has concluded, and the anticipation for Week 1 is now in full swing.

Regarding the availability of players for the season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, there are significant uncertainties. Head Coach Mike McDaniel provided an injury update late Friday concerning five key starters who are currently facing injuries of varying degrees: wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., center Aaron Brewer, defensive tackle Benito Jones, safety Jevon Holland, and cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

Is Odell Beckham Jr. Expected to Play in Week 1 for the Miami Dolphins?

Beckham has not participated in any practice sessions since joining the Dolphins over three months ago. The organization must make a decision by Tuesday on whether to activate him from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list or to keep him sidelined for the first four games of the season.

When inquired about his optimism regarding Beckham's participation in practice prior to the commencement of the season, McDaniel responded, "Indeed. I maintain hope for various aspects. While I do not feel anxious about it, one naturally hopes for the best. It is essential to pay attention to individuals' physical conditions and maintain open communication. I am aware that he is quite positive about his progress, yet we must approach each day as it comes. As I mentioned earlier, I do not find myself in a state of anxiety due to his level of engagement."

“He’s found a way to be a leader of sorts without playing, that’s tough to do, but his mindset’s right. And so I feel good about that.”

The prospects appear significantly more favorable for Holland and Ramsey, both of whom are expected to participate in Week 1 following their absence from recent training sessions. McDaniel remarked, “Holland had an excellent workout today, which he was quite enthusiastic about. I would categorize his status as day-to-day at this moment.”

McDaniel expressed that he has “no concerns” regarding Ramsey’s availability for Week 1. Conversely, the situation is less optimistic for Brewer, who has been sidelined for over two weeks due to a hand injury. The Dolphins were sufficiently worried about his readiness for the season opener that they opted to rest Liam Eichenberg during Friday night’s game.

“Nothing has really changed in that regard. I feel relatively confident, but there is nothing definitive,” McDaniel stated. Additionally, both Jones and Brandon Pili, the Dolphins’ leading nose tackles, may return by Week 1. Jones has been out for several weeks due to an undisclosed injury, while Pili sustained a minor injury on Friday, although the initial assessment was encouraging. Lastly, the Dolphins do not have significant concerns regarding wide receiver Erik Ezukanma or safety Patrick McMorris, both of whom were seen in walking boots on Friday after sustaining injuries during Wednesday’s practice.

“What I do know is that it’s not longer than week to week. But it could be more expeditious.”
