New York Snaps San Antonio 11 Game Winning Streak in 114-89 Statement Win

NEW YORK — The New York Knicks delivered a breaking update in the Eastern Conference playoff race Sunday, ending the San Antonio Spurs’ 11 game winning streak with a decisive 114-89 victory at Madison Square Garden.

Mikal Bridges scored 25 points and Jalen Brunson added 24 as the Knicks controlled the game after a dominant 26-2 first half run that flipped early momentum and created permanent separation. The victory halted San Antonio’s unbeaten February and marked its first loss since Jan. 31 in Charlotte.

San Antonio entered March as the hottest team in the league, becoming the first club in NBA history to go unbeaten in a month while scoring at least 110 points in every game with a minimum of 10 contests played. That offensive consistency stalled against a Knicks defense that forced 22 turnovers, converting them into 24 points.

Victor Wembanyama finished with 25 points, 13 rebounds, and four blocks, rebounding from consecutive 12 point outings. It was his first appearance at Madison Square Garden since his 42 point, 18 rebound performance on Christmas 2024. Despite his production, the Spurs were out rebounded 54-41 and struggled to match New York’s physicality.

The turning point came after San Antonio built a 19-7 lead late in the first quarter on a Stephon Castle three. Brunson responded with 11 points in the final 1:52 of the opening period to give New York a 22-21 lead. The Knicks then opened the second quarter on an 11-0 run, with Bridges extending the margin to double digits. New York eventually led by as many as 26.

Mohamed Diawara added 14 points off the bench, providing secondary scoring for a Knicks team that had shown inconsistency since its NBA Cup championship win over San Antonio in December. After starting the season 23-9, New York had gone 15-13 entering Sunday. The latest performance suggests defensive adjustments and ball security improvements could stabilize their late season outlook.

From an impact standpoint, the result reinforces the Knicks’ position in the Eastern Conference standings and reestablishes them as a contender capable of containing elite offensive teams. For San Antonio, the loss tests how the young roster responds after a historic stretch. Limiting turnovers and maintaining rebounding discipline will be key adjustments moving forward.

Next steps: The Spurs visit Philadelphia on Tuesday seeking to reset their momentum, while the Knicks travel to Toronto aiming to build on a performance that reshaped the latest NBA timeline in both conferences.
