Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokić was forced to leave Monday night’s game against the Miami Heat after injuring his left knee in the closing moments of the first half. Initially labeled as questionable to return, Jokić was later ruled out for the remainder of the game. Nuggets coach David Adelman confirmed after the game that Jokić is scheduled to undergo full medical testing the following day. The injury occurred when Jokić made accidental contact with teammate Spencer Jones, who was defending Miami’s Jaime Jaquez Jr. Following the collision, Jokić immediately fell to the floor and clutched his left knee. Members of Denver’s medical staff quickly attended to him on the court.

“Right away, he knew something wasn’t right,” Adelman told reporters after the game.

At 30 years old, Jokić is putting together another season worthy of MVP consideration. The three-time NBA MVP and 2023 Finals MVP is averaging 29.9 points per game and currently leads the league in rebounds (12.4) and assists (11.1). Prior to the injury, the Nuggets held a strong 22–9 record.

Jokić’s injury adds to an already difficult season for Denver in terms of health. Aaron Gordon remains sidelined with a hamstring injury, Cameron Johnson is expected to miss four to six weeks due to a knee injury earlier this month, and Christian Braun is out indefinitely after suffering a serious ankle sprain last month.
