Raiders Bolster Roster With Signings of Patrick Johnson, Buddy Johnson, and Deven Thompkins.

The Las Vegas Raiders are continuing to strengthen their roster as training camp gets underway, adding three veteran players following a series of free-agent workouts. The team announced Monday that defensive end Patrick Johnson, linebacker Buddy Johnson, and wide receiver Deven Thompkins have signed contracts with the organization. The three players were among eight free agents who participated in workouts with the Raiders, while veteran running back Miles Sanders was not among the players who received a contract. Each player brings a different area of experience to Las Vegas, with Johnson adding depth along the defensive line, Buddy Johnson providing linebacker competition, and Thompkins bringing versatility as a wide receiver and return specialist.

Patrick Johnson Adds Experience to Defensive Front

Patrick Johnson joins the Raiders after spending the 2025 season with the Philadelphia Eagles. The defensive end appeared in nine games last season, recording three tackles, one sack, two quarterback hits, and one tackle for loss. He also contributed on special teams, finishing the year with five tackles. A seventh-round selection by Philadelphia in the 2021 NFL Draft, Johnson has appeared in 70 career games with the Eagles and New York Giants. Throughout his NFL career, he has totaled 14 defensive tackles, one sack, six quarterback hits, two tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. The Raiders will look for Johnson to compete for a rotational role while adding veteran leadership to their defensive line group.

Buddy Johnson Brings Linebacker Depth

Las Vegas also added linebacker Buddy Johnson, who enters his fifth NFL season after being selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Johnson has appeared in 33 career games with the Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, and Indianapolis Colts. Although his defensive snaps have been limited, he has provided value on special teams, recording 23 special teams tackles during his career. Johnson started the 2025 season on Dallas’ practice squad before being elevated for one game. He later joined the Colts’ active roster in Week 5 and appeared in 12 games for Indianapolis. His experience on special teams could help him compete for a roster position as the Raiders evaluate their linebacker depth.

Deven Thompkins Adds Speed and Return Ability

The Raiders’ third signing was wide receiver Deven Thompkins, who brings additional speed and special teams experience to the roster. Thompkins entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2022. Since entering the league, he has played for the Buccaneers, Carolina Panthers, and Atlanta Falcons, appearing in 36 career games. During his NFL career, Thompkins has recorded 29 receptions for 162 yards and one touchdown. He has also contributed as a runner, carrying the ball 13 times for 94 yards. His biggest impact has come as a return specialist. Thompkins has recorded 368 punt return yards on 42 attempts and 1,005 kickoff return yards on 45 attempts, giving the Raiders another option on special teams.

Raiders Make Additional Roster Moves

To create space for the new additions, Las Vegas waived wide receiver Jonathan Brady, linebacker Chris Thomas, and defensive tackle Laki Tasi. With training camp underway, the Raiders continue to evaluate their roster and add competition at key positions. The signings of Patrick Johnson, Buddy Johnson, and Deven Thompkins provide the team with experienced players looking to earn roles heading into the upcoming season.
