A dramatic semifinal at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia was brought to a sudden standstill on Thursday as persistent rain forced officials to suspend play during a tense deciding set between Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev. At the time of the interruption, Sinner held a commanding position, leading 6–2, 5–7, 4–2, while Medvedev was serving at advantage in a crucial game that could have narrowed the gap. The suspension came after chair umpire Aurélie Tourte halted play as conditions deteriorated across the Foro Italico. The decision followed a brief on-court exchange, with Sinner voicing concerns about the increasingly slippery conditions after narrowly missing a break point opportunity earlier in the game. Within minutes, officials deemed the court unsafe and called players off. Medvedev, a former champion in Rome, left the court without an umbrella as heavy rain swept through the venue. The Russian had shown visible signs of discomfort earlier in the match, at one point bending over courtside during the second set and later receiving a medical timeout during a changeover in the decider. Despite the interruption, Sinner remains on the brink of a landmark achievement. The world No. 1 is chasing a Career Golden Masters and continues to ride a remarkable 32-match winning streak at ATP Masters 1000 level events.

Medvedev, meanwhile, is looking to repeat his 2023 triumph in Rome, which marked his first career title on clay. Play is expected to resume on Saturday at 3 p.m. local time, weather permitting, with the winner set to face Casper Ruud in the final after he dispatched Luciano Darderi in the other semifinal.
