Sam Darnold Leads Seahawks Past Rams, Secures Super Bowl Berth.

Sam Darnold’s winding NFL journey reached a defining moment Sunday night as he guided the Seattle Seahawks to a dramatic 31–27 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game. The win sends Seattle to the Super Bowl for the first time in more than a decade. Once released by the New York Jets and not re-signed by Minnesota despite a strong regular season, Darnold has revived his career in Seattle. In his first season with the Seahawks, the veteran quarterback delivered one of the best performances of his career, throwing for 346 yards and three touchdowns while playing through an oblique injury.

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald praised Darnold’s resilience and leadership, crediting him as the driving force behind the victory. Darnold completed 25 of 36 passes and avoided turnovers, keeping Seattle’s offense efficient throughout the game. Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba played a crucial role, hauling in 10 receptions for 153 yards and a touchdown. His performance marked the second-highest receiving total in a playoff game in franchise history. Smith-Njigba emphasized the team’s determination, noting the collective effort that pushed Seattle one step closer to a championship. The game’s turning point came late in the fourth quarter when Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford led a drive deep into Seattle territory. Facing fourth-and-four at the Seahawks’ six-yard line, Los Angeles elected to go for it, but cornerback Devon Witherspoon broke up Stafford’s pass in the end zone to preserve the lead.

Although Stafford threw for 374 yards and three touchdowns, costly mistakes plagued the Rams. A muffed punt in the third quarter led to a quick Seattle touchdown, and penalties extended drives that ultimately hurt Los Angeles. Stafford nearly rallied the Rams late, but Seattle’s defense held firm. Seattle maintained its aggressive approach on offense to close out the game, with Darnold completing key passes to drain the remaining time. The Seahawks finished with a 16–3 record and will make their fourth Super Bowl appearance in franchise history. The Rams, now eliminated, face uncertainty regarding Stafford’s future. At 37 years old, the veteran quarterback remains productive and is a finalist for the league’s MVP award, but questions linger about whether he will return next season.

Seattle will now prepare for the Super Bowl, seeking its second championship after winning its first title during the 2013 season.
