PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley expects to play Monday night against the Chicago Bears after making progress in his recovery from a neck stinger. Barkley suffered the injury on Philadelphia's opening offensive play last Sunday when he was tackled for no gain by defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons. After being evaluated in the medical tent, Barkley briefly returned to the game in the second half. The veteran running back ultimately played 10 of 72 offensive snaps, carrying the ball four times for 9 yards.

Barkley underwent an MRI Monday before returning to practice later in the week. He was limited during Thursday's session before being listed as a full participant Friday. The 29-year-old said the injury was more significant than previous stingers he has experienced, but he believes the incident has also highlighted the importance of strengthening his neck as part of his long-term preparation. Barkley said the MRI provided reassurance that there was nothing that would prevent him from continuing his career. He has also been working through rehabilitation to prepare for his return against Chicago. The Eagles running back wore a neck roll when he returned to Sunday's game and plans to use a modified version Monday night that will provide him with more freedom of movement. Through Philadelphia's first two games, Barkley has rushed for 92 yards on 19 carries, averaging 4.8 yards per attempt. He has not missed an entire game because of injury during his more than two seasons with the Eagles. Barkley said he does not expect the stinger to change the way he approaches Monday night's matchup. His focus is on completing his preparation and playing without hesitation.

If cleared to play as expected, Barkley will return to the Eagles' lineup against a Bears defense that will have to account for one of Philadelphia's primary offensive weapons.
