The Denver Broncos received a scare during Wednesday’s training camp practice when wide receiver Jaylen Waddle left the field early after experiencing discomfort during a one-on-one drill. Waddle, who was acquired by Denver this offseason in a blockbuster trade with the Miami Dolphins, stepped away from practice and eventually made his way to the locker room with assistance from Broncos head athletic trainer Vince Garcia. The star wide receiver did not return for the remainder of the session. Following practice, Broncos head coach Sean Payton addressed Waddle’s status and offered a positive update on his condition. “We’ll evaluate him,” Payton said. “I think he’s fine. He had some muscle tightness.” While Payton expressed confidence that Waddle’s injury is not serious, the Broncos will continue to monitor the wide receiver as they manage the physical demands of training camp. Waddle’s health will be a major focus for Denver as the team continues preparations for the upcoming season. The Broncos made a significant investment to bring him in, sending a first-round draft pick to Miami in an effort to upgrade a wide receiver group that has been searching for a consistent playmaker. Through the offseason program and early portions of training camp, Waddle has quickly developed chemistry with quarterback Bo Nix and has become one of the offense’s top targets. Keeping him healthy and on the field will be important as Denver continues installing Sean Payton’s offensive system. Denver’s offense is counting on Waddle to play a major role in 2026. His speed, ability to create separation, and experience as a top NFL receiver were key reasons the Broncos made the aggressive move to acquire him. The priority now is ensuring Waddle is fully healthy while continuing to build timing with Nix and the rest of the offense. As the regular season approaches, every practice rep matters, especially for a new addition learning a new system. The Broncos will continue evaluating Waddle’s progress while hoping his latest injury concern remains nothing more than a minor setback.
