Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Shatters Her Own World Record and Makes History with Repeat Olympic Gold

ree

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone once again broke her own world record in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking an incredible 50.37 seconds on Thursday night to successfully defend her Olympic title. With this victory, the 25-year-old American became the first woman in history to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals in the women's 400-meter hurdles.

McLaughlin-Levrone has now set the world record six times since 2020 and holds an astonishing 7 of the top 10 fastest times ever recorded in the women’s 400-meter hurdles, including all of the top three times. Leading from the final turn, she cruised down the home stretch, finishing 1.50 seconds ahead of teammate Anna Cockrell.

She had previously set the record at 50.65 seconds during the U.S. Olympic trials on June 30.

The race was highly anticipated due to the rivalry between McLaughlin-Levrone and the Netherlands' Femke Bol. However, Cockrell surprised by taking second place, while Bol finished third, visibly frustrated as she walked down the track.

Once McLaughlin-Levrone gained momentum, no one could catch her. After crossing the finish line, she glanced at the scoreboard and flashed a quick smile, making the feat of breaking records seem almost effortless.

The GOAT has done it again. This is her event and the world knows it.
