In a dominant second-half effort, Dailyn Swain scored 26 points and Tramon Mark added a season-high 23 as Texas defeated No. 21 Georgia 87-67 on Saturday in Austin (AP). Trailing by seven at halftime, the Longhorns outscored the Bulldogs 57-30 in the second half while shooting 69% from the field. Swain made 12 of 16 shots overall, and Mark connected on 10 of 16 attempts. Mark scored 10 consecutive points in the second half, including back-to-back three-pointers, while Swain contributed 14 points and five steals in the frame. Following Mark’s scoring run, Texas went on a 17-2 run highlighted by two three-pointers from Cam Heide. The Longhorns finished the second half making five of 11 shots from beyond the arc.
Matas Vokietaitis added 14 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks despite early foul trouble, and Jordan Pope scored 10 of his 14 points after halftime. The Longhorns’ season has been inconsistent, with wins against AP Top 25 teams Alabama, Vanderbilt, and Georgia, but losses to unranked Mississippi State and Texas A&M at home.
For Georgia, Jeremiah Wilkson led with 17 points, shooting 4-of-12 from the field, while Somto Cyril added 12 points. Texas limited the Bulldogs to 28 points below their average of 94.8 and held them to just seven fast-break points, 17 fewer than their season norm.
Next, Georgia will host Tennessee on Tuesday, and Texas travels to Auburn on Wednesday.
