Tobias Harris Sidelined by Calf Strain, Status Uncertain for Spurs’ Season Opener.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs will be without veteran forward Tobias Harris for the preseason after he suffered a left calf strain during training camp. The Spurs announced the injury Sunday before their intrasquad scrimmage. Harris did not participate and is expected to be reevaluated following the preseason, leaving his availability uncertain for San Antonio’s Oct. 20 regular-season opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Harris joined the Spurs in July on a two-year, $31 million contract after spending the previous two seasons with the Detroit Pistons. The 34-year-old was expected to provide San Antonio with an experienced frontcourt presence and floor spacing while competing for a spot in the starting lineup. During his second stint with Detroit, Harris averaged 13.5 points and 5.6 rebounds. He also provided veteran leadership as the Pistons improved dramatically and reached the playoffs for the first time since 2008.
Before joining San Antonio, Harris returned to Detroit in 2024 on a two-year, $52 million contract after spending six seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Spurs will now move through the preseason without Harris as they monitor his recovery and determine whether he will be ready when the regular season begins.
