Victor Wembanyama Leads Spurs Past Mavericks 135 to 123 as Cooper Flagg Extends Historic Rookie Scoring Run

Victor Wembanyama recorded 29 points and 11 rebounds Thursday night as the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Dallas Mavericks 135 to 123, delivering a breaking update that highlighted both veteran poise and historic rookie scoring.

Wembanyama added six assists and made his first five three point attempts, scoring 20 points by halftime as San Antonio built multiple double digit leads. The Spurs held firm in the final two minutes to secure the win despite a strong second half from Dallas.

Dallas rookie Cooper Flagg scored 32 points, marking his fourth consecutive game with at least 30 points and extending an NBA record for a teenager. At 19 years old, Flagg joined Michael Jordan, Bernard King, Allen Iverson, and Jalen Green as the only rookies since the 1976–77 NBA season to reach 30 points in four straight games. He scored 22 points after halftime as the Mavericks cut a 13 point deficit to one, but they were unable to take the lead.

San Antonio placed seven players in double figures, reflecting a team wide effort that defined the latest timeline. Harrison Barnes scored 19 points, De Aaron Fox added 17 despite a tough shooting night, and Stephon Castle contributed 18 points and seven rebounds. Fox hit two critical three pointers in the fourth quarter, including one off Wembanyama’s sixth assist, giving the Spurs a 131 to 123 lead with 1:24 remaining. Castle closed the scoring with an emphatic dunk for the final points.

For Dallas, Naji Marshall matched Flagg with 32 points, while Daniel Gafford recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds just hours after the trade deadline passed without his departure despite speculation. The Mavericks were playing their first game since trading 10 time All Star Anthony Davis, who had been sidelined for a month with a left hand injury. The move reshaped the roster and placed additional scoring responsibility on younger players.

The loss completed an 0 to 4 stretch for Dallas and extended its losing streak to six games, the longest of the season. What this means moving forward is an increased focus on development, rotation stability, and managing Flagg’s workload as the team adapts to recent changes.

For San Antonio, the win reinforced the importance of depth and execution. Wembanyama’s scoring and playmaking highlighted his continued growth, while contributions from multiple players allowed the Spurs to withstand Dallas’ late rally.

Next steps come quickly, with the teams set to meet again Saturday in San Antonio, offering an immediate opportunity to assess adjustments and momentum as the season timeline continues.
