Zack Steffen Out for Season After Shoulder Surgery.

Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Zack Steffen will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing successful shoulder surgery, the club announced Tuesday. Steffen is expected to be sidelined for approximately five to six months, effectively ruling him out for the rest of the MLS campaign as the Rapids deal with a significant setback in goal. The 31-year-old joined Colorado in January 2024 after a stint with English Premier League side Manchester City. Before his move abroad, Steffen developed his reputation in MLS with the Columbus Crew from 2017 to 2019, where he earned MLS Goalkeeper of the Year honors in 2018.

This season, Steffen had started nine matches for the Rapids and recorded two clean sheets before his injury interruption. Across his MLS career, he has tallied 37 shutouts in 162 appearances in all competitions over six seasons. With Steffen sidelined, Nico Hansen is expected to take over starting goalkeeper duties when the MLS season resumes next month following the World Cup break.
