UNCASVILLE, Conn. — A’ja Wilson delivered a dominant 45-point performance Friday night, powering the Las Vegas Aces to a 101–94 road win over the undermanned Connecticut Sun.
Wilson was remarkably efficient, hitting 15 of 18 shots from the floor and converting all 13 free-throw attempts. She set the tone early and stayed in control throughout, finishing as the clear difference-maker as Las Vegas secured its third straight victory following its opening-night loss to Phoenix. Chennedy Carter added 18 points for the Aces, continuing a strong start to her season after returning to the league this year following a year away playing overseas. Entering Friday, she had been averaging nearly 20 points per game while shooting at a high clip. Connecticut, playing without several key contributors, briefly threatened a comeback late in the third quarter. Trailing 69–56, the Sun went on a 14–3 run sparked by consecutive three-pointers from Saniya Rivers, cutting the deficit to 72–70. But Wilson quickly responded. She buried a three-pointer out of a timeout and followed it with a three-point play on the next possession, igniting a decisive 16–4 run that stretched across the third and fourth quarters and put the game out of reach. The Sun were again shorthanded, missing Brittney Griner due to a foot injury and Olivia Nelson-Ododa, who sat out with an ankle issue after briefly returning in the previous game. The team did welcome back Aaliyah Edwards, who made her season debut after a thigh injury and contributed six points in 17 minutes. Hailey Van Lith led Connecticut with 17 points as the Sun fell to 0–4 on the season.
Wilson had already taken control by halftime, scoring 19 points on 6-of-7 shooting to help the Aces build a 54–44 lead. The Aces continue their road trip Sunday in Atlanta against the Atlanta Dream, while the Sun head to Portland to face the Portland Fire on Monday.
