Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said on Monday that he expects to return for another season, dismissing speculation that retirement may be near. Speaking with local Kansas City media during a video call, Reid joked about his future but made it clear that his plan is to keep coaching if the organization wants him to stay. Reid, who is 67 years old, noted that discussions about his career usually take place after the season ends, often following a Super Bowl appearance. This year, however, those questions have come earlier, as Kansas City will finish the season without a playoff berth. The Chiefs enter their final game with a 6–10 record and will face the Las Vegas Raiders. In April 2024, Reid signed a five-year contract extension worth $100 million, reinforcing the team’s confidence in his leadership. Before arriving in Kansas City, Reid spent 14 seasons as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, where he accumulated 130 regular-season victories and led the team to multiple deep playoff runs, including a Super Bowl appearance. Since joining the Chiefs 13 years ago, Reid has achieved even greater success. With Alex Smith early in his tenure and Patrick Mahomes in recent years, Kansas City has become one of the NFL’s most dominant franchises. The Chiefs have earned 149 regular-season wins under Reid and posted an 18–8 playoff record.
Although this season ended several long-standing streaks, including consecutive playoff appearances and AFC West titles, Reid’s overall impact remains historic.
Reid has guided the Chiefs to five Super Bowl appearances, winning three championships. Only Bill Belichick and Chuck Noll have won more Super Bowls as head coaches. With 307 total career wins, Reid is closing in on George Halas for third place on the NFL’s all-time coaching wins list, trailing only Belichick and Don Shula.
