Former Romeo Doubs, previously a wide receiver for the Green Bay Packers, has agreed to a reported four-year, $80 million contract with the New England Patriots during the NFL free-agency period. The Patriots confirmed the signing on March 12, 2026. At 25 years old and turning 26 in April, Doubs joins New England as the team seeks to strengthen its receiving corps. The Patriots needed help at wide receiver after releasing veteran Stefon Diggs, who led the team with 1,013 receiving yards in the previous season. Under head coach Mike Vrabel, New England reached the Super Bowl, but the team looked to add new offensive weapons for the upcoming season. Doubs spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with Green Bay after being selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of University of Nevada. During the 2025 season, he recorded a career-high 724 receiving yards and led the Packers with 55 receptions. He also caught six touchdown passes, tying for the team lead with wide receiver Christian Watson and tight end Tucker Kraft. One of Doubs’ most notable performances came during the playoffs, when he caught eight passes for 124 yards and a touchdown in a wild-card loss to the Chicago Bears. Known for his reliable hands and ability to make contested catches, Doubs significantly improved his drop rate after his rookie season. According to Pro Football Focus, he recorded only three dropped passes in 2025.

Despite his success on the field, Doubs faced challenges during the 2024 season when the Packers suspended him for one game due to conduct detrimental to the team.

Reports indicated he had missed two practices because of frustration with his role in the offense. However, Doubs later stated that he stepped away because of mental-health concerns and acknowledged that he should have communicated better with the team.

Throughout his time in Green Bay, Doubs demonstrated consistency, recording at least 45 receptions and more than 600 receiving yards in each of the past three seasons. He finished his tenure with the Packers with 21 total touchdown receptions while competing in a crowded receiver group that included Watson, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and Matthew Golden. With his move to New England, Doubs is expected to play a significant role in the Patriots’ offense as the team prepares for the upcoming NFL season.
