Packers Add Veteran QB Tyrod Taylor to Back Up Jordan Love.

The Green Bay Packers have added experience to their quarterback room, signing veteran Tyrod Taylor on Monday following the conclusion of the NFL draft, according to sources.

Taylor, 36, is expected to compete for — and likely secure — the primary backup role behind starter Jordan Love, who enters his fourth season as Green Bay’s No. 1 quarterback. The move comes after former backup Malik Willis departed in free agency to join the Miami Dolphins. Prior to Taylor’s arrival, Green Bay’s quarterback depth chart included Desmond Ridder and rookie Kyle McCord. Ridder was released in a corresponding roster move. General manager Brian Gutekunst emphasized the importance of depth at the position following the draft, noting Love has missed time in each of the past two seasons. “We need someone who can step in and perform at a high level if called upon,” Gutekunst said. “That’s critical for us, especially after losing Malik.” Taylor brings extensive experience, having appeared in 100 career games with 62 starts across 15 NFL seasons. He most recently played for the New York Jets, where he made four starts last season. Much of Taylor’s starting résumé came during his time with the Buffalo Bills from 2015 to 2017, when he started 43 games and helped stabilize the franchise at quarterback. In recent years, however, injuries have limited his availability. Taylor dealt with knee issues that required arthroscopic surgery during training camp last year and later suffered a groin injury that ended his 2025 season prematurely. He hasn’t started more than six games in a season since 2017.

Taylor originally entered the league as a sixth-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in 2011. Over his career, he has compiled a 29-31-1 record as a starter, while earning a reputation as a steady, professional presence in the locker room. For Green Bay, the signing represents a low-risk move to solidify a key backup role behind Love with a proven veteran capable of stepping in if needed.
