In a standout performance on Wednesday, Andrew Benintendi led the Chicago White Sox to a 9–4 victory over the New York Mets, avoiding a three-game sweep. Benintendi, who fell just a double short of hitting for the cycle, drove in a season-high four runs, helping Chicago halt a difficult losing trend. Benintendi's offensive surge began in the first inning with a two-run single, continued with an RBI triple in the sixth, and concluded with his sixth home run of the season in the eighth. The veteran outfielder's clutch hitting energized the White Sox, who had previously been swept six times this season. Supporting Benintendi’s big day were Lenyn Sosa, who contributed three hits, and Mike Tauchman, whose two-run double in the first inning helped set the tone for the game. Miguel Vargas also continued his hot streak with a double, marking the fifth consecutive game he has done so—a feat not achieved by a White Sox player since Adam Dunn in 2011.

The White Sox used five pitchers in the game, with Brandon Eisert (2-0) earning the win after throwing 1⅓ hitless innings in relief. Starter Shane Smith lasted only 3⅔ innings, allowing three runs and walking five batters. Mets starter Griffin Canning (5-2) struggled with command, giving up five runs—three earned—while walking four in just three innings. The Mets’ offense showed signs of life with a three-run homer from Mark Vientos and an RBI double from Pete Alonso in the ninth. However, star slugger Juan Soto remained in a slump, going 0-for-4 and failing to hit the ball out of the infield, dropping his batting average to .224. Soto has not homered since May 9, a span of 75 plate appearances.

Late in the game, Mets reliever Miguel Castro exited with an apparent right knee injury while covering first base. He was later seen on crutches and is scheduled for further evaluation.

The win marked a much-needed morale boost for the struggling White Sox and ended the Mets’ four-game winning streak. It also exposed concerns for New York, which gave up a season-high nine runs.
