Bo Bichette delivered a dramatic pinch-hit, two-run homer in the ninth inning, lifting the Toronto Blue Jays to a 2-0 victory over the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night. The win was powered by a dominant combined one-hitter from five Toronto pitchers, marking the team’s third shutout of the season. Bichette, sidelined from the starting lineup due to lower back soreness, came off the bench in the ninth and crushed an 0-1 fastball from Jacob Webb over the left field wall with two outs, breaking the scoreless tie and delivering the game-winning runs. Toronto’s pitching staff stifled the Rangers throughout the night, allowing only a single hit — a sharp leadoff single by Josh Smith in the first inning. Smith also walked twice but was the lone Ranger to reach base via a hit. Paxton Schultz, making his first major league start, impressed by striking out four and yielding only that one hit over 2 2/3 innings. Eric Lauer continued to dominate, recording four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings, while Braydon Fisher added two punchouts in his one inning of relief. Brendon Little struck out the only two batters he faced in the eighth inning, and Jeff Hoffman closed out the game with a perfect ninth inning, earning his 12th save in 15 opportunities.

Toronto’s offense was quiet for most of the night, but Vladimir Guerrero Jr. extended his career-best on-base streak to 28 games — the longest active streak in Major League Baseball — with two singles and a walk. The Rangers’ starter, Tyler Mahle, was equally impressive, throwing six scoreless innings and maintaining his MLB-best 0.82 ERA at home. Despite his strong outing, Texas could not overcome the Blue Jays’ pitching and clutch hitting. The series between these two teams was a low-scoring affair, with just seven combined runs over three games.

Toronto won the opener 2-1, Texas took the second game 2-0, and the Blue Jays closed out the series with Wednesday’s 2-0 win. With the victory, the Blue Jays showcased their resilience and depth, continuing to build momentum as the season progresses.
