The Buffalo Bills’ 2025 season ended in heartbreak and controversy, as quarterback Josh Allen publicly took responsibility for the team’s loss to the Denver Broncos. Allen became emotional in a postgame interview, tearfully expressing that he felt he had let his team down.

However, his teammates disagreed. Offensive lineman Dion Dawkins, a central figure in the Bills’ locker room, was visibly moved when told of Allen’s comments. Fighting back tears, Dawkins quietly stated, “He didn’t let us down.” The game featured multiple turning points that influenced the outcome, including two interceptions and three fumbles by Allen. Several officiating decisions also sparked controversy. A defensive pass interference on Broncos cornerback Riley Moss went uncalled, which would have positioned Buffalo at the one-yard line late in regulation. Additionally, a deep catch by receiver Brandin Cooks in overtime, which should have placed the ball near the 20-yard line for a potential game-winning drive, was ruled an interception after Broncos corner Ja’Quan McMillian stripped the ball. Cooks, who was emotional after the game, also defended Allen, praising the quarterback’s consistent leadership. “He’s been carrying us all year,” Cooks said. He added that teammates must step up to share the burden of making game-changing plays, emphasizing Allen’s role as one of the league’s top quarterbacks. Allen’s first-half fumble led to three points for Denver, while his third-quarter interception came immediately after the Bills’ defense intercepted Broncos quarterback Bo Nix in Denver territory. Despite these setbacks, Allen orchestrated several plays that nearly positioned Buffalo for a win, had officiating calls gone differently.

Head coach Sean McDermott also defended Allen, placing the responsibility for the loss on the team rather than the quarterback. “It’s not on him,” McDermott said. “We had opportunities—all of us. I’m extremely proud of him. He’s a tremendous leader and a tremendous quarterback.”
