NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Mikayla Blakes scored 21 points and handed out seven assists as No. 12 Vanderbilt cruised to a 109–50 victory over Stonehill on Sunday. Aiyana Mitchell contributed 16 points while shooting an efficient 7-of-8 from the floor, helping the Commodores dominate from start to finish. Vanderbilt closed its nonconference schedule undefeated at 13–0, marking the program’s third-best start ever. The last time the Commodores reached at least 13 wins without a loss was during the 1995–96 season, when they opened with 14 straight victories. The Commodores showcased balanced scoring, with four additional players reaching double figures. Sacha Washington finished with 14 points, while Jada Brown, Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda, and Justine Pissott each added 12.
Defensively, Vanderbilt overwhelmed Stonehill by forcing 35 turnovers, converting them into 46 points. Brown led all players with six steals, while Blakes and Aubrey Galvan each recorded five steals and seven assists. Vanderbilt also controlled the paint, scoring 64 points near the basket.
The Commodores seized control early, racing to a 34–6 advantage after the first quarter and heading into halftime with a commanding 60–17 lead. They maintained the momentum for the remainder of the game, leading for nearly the entire contest.
Stonehill (4–7) was paced by Julia Webster, who scored 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting.
Vanderbilt will open Southeastern Conference play on Thursday with a road matchup against Arkansas. Stonehill returns to action Friday at New Haven to begin Northeast Conference competition.
