In a historic Game 5 of the 2025 World Series, the Toronto Blue Jays crushed the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers 6–1 to seize a 3–2 series lead. The win, powered by a record-breaking performance from rookie pitcher Trey Yesavage and back-to-back home runs by Davis Schneider and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., places Toronto just one victory away from its first championship since 1993. The game began with fireworks. Schneider and Guerrero Jr. opened the top of the first inning with consecutive home runs—the first time in World Series history that a team has begun a game that way. The early surge stunned the Dodgers and set the tone for what would become a lopsided contest. On the mound, Yesavage delivered one of the most dominant pitching performances in recent postseason memory. In just five innings, he struck out ten batters, matching a feat not seen since Sandy Koufax accomplished it in 1963. By the time he exited, the rookie had compiled twelve total strikeouts with no walks, marking the first such stat line in World Series history. His command of the sweeper and splitter pitches left the Dodgers’ lineup overmatched and searching for answers. For the Dodgers, the loss was a devastating setback. Now trailing in the series, they face elimination as the World Series shifts back to Toronto for Game 6. The defending champions have struggled to find consistent offense, and while they might deploy Shohei Ohtani in relief behind Tyler Glasnow in a potential Game 7, their margin for error has vanished.

Meanwhile, the Blue Jays find themselves on the brink of a championship that would end 32 years of anticipation for their fans. With ace Kevin Gausman expected to start the next game, Toronto enters Game 6 confident yet cautious. The Rogers Centre will undoubtedly be electric as the city rallies behind a team that has combined breakout performances, veteran leadership, and unrelenting momentum. If the Blue Jays can finish the job, Game 5 will be remembered not only for Yesavage’s brilliance but also as the turning point that propelled Toronto back to baseball’s summit.
