The Denver Broncos are preparing for a crucial Thursday Night Football showdown against their AFC West rival, the Las Vegas Raiders. Coming off a hard-fought defensive win over the Houston Texans, the Broncos hope to maintain their momentum despite a short week and several key injuries. While Denver has struggled against the Raiders in recent seasons, the team has several key matchups that could determine whether they can reverse that trend. The Broncos’ defense faces a major challenge without star cornerback Patrick Surtain II. Rookie cornerback Jahdae Barron will likely step into a vital role covering tight end Brock Bowers, one of the league’s most dynamic young weapons. Barron impressed in his first start against Houston, but containing Bowers will require discipline and support from the safety group. Additionally, Denver’s linebackers and safeties will have to account for tight end Michael Mayer, especially since the Raiders traded receiver Jakobi Meyers before the deadline.

Denver’s edge rushers, including Nik Bonitto and Jonathon Cooper, could hold the key to the game. The Raiders’ offensive tackles have struggled this season, particularly backup left tackle Stone Forsythe, who has allowed significant pressure since stepping in for injured starter Kolton Miller. If the Broncos can collapse the pocket, they will increase their chances of forcing turnovers and controlling the pace of the game. On offense, Denver must contend with Raiders star pass rusher Maxx Crosby. Right tackle Mike McGlinchey has faced Crosby several times, but the matchup has generally favored the Raiders’ defensive leader. The Broncos may need to use tight ends and running backs for additional blocking support to give rookie quarterback Bo Nix time to operate.

Tight end Evan Engram is another player who could make a difference. The Broncos have struggled to integrate him effectively, but with the Raiders’ defense focusing on the run, Engram may find opportunities across the middle of the field. Denver will also look to wide receivers Courtland Sutton and Troy Franklin to exploit weaknesses in the Raiders’ secondary. Sutton’s size and Franklin’s ability to find space against zone coverage could create openings for big plays. Ultimately, the game will test the Broncos’ ability to adapt under pressure. They hold advantages on the edge and in certain receiving matchups, but protecting Nix and neutralizing Crosby will be essential. With playoff positioning and pride on the line, Denver must execute on both sides of the ball to finally get the upper hand in this long-standing rivalry.

Predicted Score: Broncos 23, Raiders 17.
