Bronny James had a forgettable Summer League game as the Los Angeles Lakers suffered a 99-80 defeat to the Houston Rockets on Friday night. James managed to score only eight points on 3-of-14 shooting, missing all eight of his three-point attempts during his 27 minutes on the court. Speaking to reporters after the game, James admitted that he is currently experiencing a rough patch.

James made valuable contributions with five rebounds and two steals. His struggles with shooting have been evident during the summer league. In the two California Classic games, James only made 3 out of 12 shots. He has not been successful in making a three-pointer in 12 attempts between California and Las Vegas. While James may see this as a temporary setback, it is not surprising that his shots are not going in at the moment. Scouts have previously highlighted the need for him to improve his shooting skills since his college days.

Jonathan Wasserman from B/R mentioned before the draft that James' scoring ability would heavily rely on his performance in transition and his ability to make jump shots, whether off the catch or after one to two dribbles. The summer league provides James with an opportunity to refine certain aspects of his game that may still need improvement. It is unlikely that he will address all of these issues within a two-week period, but he can certainly give the Lakers some positive signs as they prepare for training camp.
