The Cleveland Browns addressed a major offseason need by signing offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins to a two-year contract worth up to $24 million. With starters needed at all five offensive line positions, Jenkins brings significant versatility, having experience at center, guard, and tackle. Previously slated to earn $20 million from the Green Bay Packers in 2026, Jenkins was released, allowing Cleveland to acquire him at a favorable cost. Last season, Jenkins played at center and posted middling results, ranking in the 47th percentile for pass block win rate and the 57th percentile for run block win rate before a fractured ankle on November 10 ended his season. The prior year, he recorded similar performance at guard.
Despite recent inconsistencies, Jenkins has demonstrated high-level play in past seasons. In 2023, his pass block win rate at guard reached the 89th percentile. In 2022, he achieved a 73rd percentile mark in pass blocking and an 87th percentile in run blocking while splitting time between guard and tackle, earning a Pro Bowl selection. In 2021, Jenkins posted strong results at tackle, ranking in the 84th percentile for pass blocking and 88th percentile for run blocking.
At 30 years old, Jenkins has the potential to return to his peak performance, making him a valuable addition for the Browns. His exact position remains uncertain; while guard may be his strongest role, Cleveland may require him at center due to the scarcity of top free-agent centers. Based on the assumed base value of the contract, Jenkins represents a strong bargain compared to teammate Zion Johnson, who earns $16.5 million per year. With both versatility and upside, Jenkins’ signing could prove to be a significant gain for Cleveland.
