The Las Vegas Raiders have agreed to terms with linebacker Quay Walker on a three-year, $40.5 million contract. The move, part of a larger strategy that also included acquiring Nakobe Dean, adds another linebacker to the Raiders’ roster, with Walker commanding a slightly higher salary and reputation than Dean. Despite the investment, Walker’s performance metrics over the past two seasons present a mixed picture. His run stop win rate for off-ball linebackers ranked in the 31st percentile, while his 19.1% tackle rate was marginally above average. The disparity can be partly explained by his efficiency in the tackling department, as he missed only 6.9% of tackles compared to an 11.8% league average, according to NFL Next Gen Stats. Walker has proven effective as a blitzer, posting an 81st percentile pass-rush win rate among off-ball linebackers. However, his coverage performance has been less consistent; he has allowed 1.0 yards per coverage snap, slightly above average, and has produced a positive expected points added (EPA) in every season of his career, per NFL Next Gen Stats.

Overall, the contract represents a significant financial commitment for a linebacker who has been largely average throughout his rookie contract. The Green Bay Packers’ decision to decline Walker’s fifth-year option last year underscored this evaluation. From a team-building perspective, some analysts suggest the Raiders might have prioritized other areas of the roster over investing heavily in Walker.
