BYU football is currently having an eventful season in 2024. Recently, the team suffered a tough loss against Kansas, ending their undefeated streak. Despite the setback, BYU had earlier climbed to No. 6 in the College Football Playoff rankings following a dramatic victory over Utah, highlighting their strong performance throughout the season. The Cougars are preparing for their upcoming game against Arizona State on November 23 as they look to rebound and maintain their position in the national rankings.

Injuries:

BYU football is dealing with several injuries as they continue their season:

  1. LJ Martin: The sophomore running back has been out due to a lower-leg injury sustained in the second game of the season against SMU. He is expected to remain sidelined until after BYU’s upcoming bye week. Backup options like Miles Davis, Sione I. Moa, and Enoch Nawahine have stepped up in his absence

  2. Hinckley Folau Ropati: Another running back, Ropati, also suffered an injury in the SMU game. His availability for the next games is uncertain

  3. Ben Bywater: The linebacker has been recovering from a significant shoulder injury with nerve damage sustained last year. His status for the season remains uncertain, though he has been working towards a return.

The team’s depth, especially at running back, has been effective in maintaining their performance during this challenging period.

For BYU Football in 2024, some key players to watch include:

  1. Jake Retzlaff (Quarterback): Retzlaff is a junior quarterback who has shown strong leadership and playmaking ability. His performance will be crucial for BYU's success in Big 12 competition

  2. Tyler Batty (Defensive End): A standout on defense, Batty provides consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks and is a key leader on the defensive line

  3. Chase Roberts (Wide Receiver): As a leading target in the receiving corps, Roberts contributes significantly to BYU's passing game. His ability to create big plays is a significant asset.

  4. Hinckley Ropati (Running Back): Ropati is a versatile back known for his ability to gain tough yards and contribute to the team's offensive balance.

  5. Blake Mangelson (Defensive Tackle): On the defensive line, Mangelson has emerged as a key disruptor, making pivotal plays in critical situations.

These players, alongside a mix of experienced transfers and promising newcomers, will shape BYU's 2024 campaign as they continue to compete in the Big 12, however  BYU's next football game is scheduled to be against Oklahoma on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 6:30 PM MST. The game will take place at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah. This matchup will be a critical Big 12 conference game as the regular season nears its conclusion.
