PROVO, Utah — AJ Dybantsa delivered a breakout performance Friday night, scoring a season-high 35 points to lead No. 10 BYU to an 85–67 victory over Abilene Christian at the Marriott Center. The freshman standout was highly efficient, shooting 9 for 12 from the field and converting 17 of 20 free throws in the first 30-point game of his collegiate career. Dybantsa also contributed six rebounds and four assists, showcasing his all-around impact.

Richie Saunders added 21 points for the Cougars, who improved to 11–1 on the season and extended their winning streak to eight games. BYU shot an impressive 60 percent from the floor and capitalized at the free-throw line, finishing 29 of 40. Abilene Christian was led by Cbo Newton, who scored 23 points. Despite forcing 18 turnovers, the Wildcats fell to 7–5 and dropped their second straight game against a Big 12 opponent. BYU trailed for much of the first half before gaining momentum late. After halftime, Dybantsa took control, scoring the Cougars’ first five field goals of the period. His highlight moment came on a steal followed by a powerful dunk that pushed BYU ahead 54–42.

The Wildcats responded with a 10–0 run capped by a basket from Newton that cut the deficit to 54–52. However, BYU quickly regained control, holding Abilene Christian scoreless for nearly five minutes while scoring five consecutive baskets to stretch the lead to 67–52 with 7:34 remaining. Keba Keita missed the game due to an undisclosed illness, allowing Khadim Mboup to earn his first career start. Mboup pulled down 10 rebounds in 20 minutes, though BYU struggled early without Keita, committing 12 turnovers in the first half.

Looking ahead, Abilene Christian will visit Texas Southern on Monday, while BYU returns home to host Eastern Washington the same night.
