Free agent wide receiver Calvin Austin III has agreed to a one-year contract worth up to $4.5 million with the New York Giants, according to his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Kyle Lincoln. Austin joins the team after spending the first several seasons of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Giants were searching for additional receiving depth after wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson left the team in free agency to reunite with former Giants head coach Brian Daboll, who recently became the offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans.

Austin, a former fourth-round pick out of the University of Memphis, completed his rookie contract with Pittsburgh. He was one of only two players from the Steelers’ seven-player 2022 draft class to remain with the team through the length of his initial deal. During the 2025 season, Austin recorded 31 receptions for 372 yards and three touchdowns despite missing three games with a shoulder injury. The injury occurred in a Steelers victory over the Minnesota Vikings in Ireland when Austin delivered a key block that helped free teammate DK Metcalf for a long touchdown play.

Although Austin stands at only 5-foot-9, he has developed a reputation as a tough and energetic receiver capable of lining up both outside and in the slot. After missing his entire rookie season with a foot injury suffered during training camp, he gradually established himself as a deep-threat option. In 2024, he had a breakout year with 548 receiving yards and four touchdown catches, averaging 15.2 yards per reception. Over three seasons in the NFL, Austin has totaled 84 receptions for 1,110 yards and eight touchdowns.
