TEMPE, Ariz. — The Arizona Cardinals are entering the offseason with major questions about both their head coach and quarterback following a dismal 3-13 season. After winning eight games in 2024 and aiming for a playoff run, the team’s performance in 2025 has tied its worst modern-era record. A loss in the final game would mark their poorest season since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. Injuries have played a significant role, with only four original starters remaining healthy by Week 16. Key players, including the starting quarterback, top running backs, and offensive tackles, along with their first-round pick, have spent time on injured reserve. The defense has struggled, allowing 40 points in three games over a five-game span and 37 points in another, while the offense has faced challenges transitioning from Kyler Murray in the first five weeks to Jacoby Brissett thereafter. Brissett, who threw for 3,123 yards and 21 touchdowns in 11 starts, noted that the team’s failures often stemmed from internal errors rather than opponents outplaying them. Despite frustrations, he found positives in the team’s preparation and execution. Coach Jonathan Gannon acknowledged the need for better coaching and repeatedly emphasized correcting details, making minor staff changes, and adjusting team routines throughout the season.

Arizona’s offseason decisions will center on its quarterback situation. Brissett remains under contract, but the Cardinals could pursue a veteran bridge quarterback to mentor a rookie. With a top-five pick likely in the 2026 NFL Draft, Arizona may have an opportunity to select among top prospects such as Fernando Mendoza, Dante Moore, or Ty Simpson, though draft order and team priorities will affect availability. Alternatively, they could target quarterbacks later in the first or second round.

The team’s approach may also depend on potential changes in leadership. If owner Michael Bidwill replaces Gannon or general manager Monti Ossenfort, a new regime may reevaluate keeping Murray or selecting a new quarterback. Regardless, Gannon expressed confidence in the team’s future, noting that the current downturn is temporary and that he believes in the players’ ability to rebound.
